Subproject Z1:
Molecular electron microscopy and electron tomography

Single particle cryo-EM is a key technique for analysing functional modules with stable organization such as macromolecular machines.

The aim of this project is to facilitate structural analysis of macromolecular complexes provided by the consortium using cryo-EM. For a fast evaluation negatively stained specimen will be screened by routine electron microscopy.

Moreover, we want to implement molecular electron tomography for initial structure determination. This method will be also applied to analyze large macromolecular complexes with varying stability and e.g. only temporary associated subunits.
